What the hell is Victor von Doom doing lining up with the heroes of SHIELD? The rationale is that Doom is working with SHIELD to address the incursion issue. In real-world terms, the Playdom boys gave players a Christmas lockbox op that gave Doom to anyone willing to complete the tasks. He is currently unavailable for recruitment, though PD might put his Impending Lockboxes up for sale again some time in the future.

Because Doom is, well, Doom, none of the other heroes will fight alongside of him, so if you go into battle with him, it’s just Doom and your agent. (In game terms, this is called the “There Is Only Doom!” passive.) This is mitigated by PD’s choice to give Doom excellent opening stats, particularly in Health. He’s a tough one to knock out from statistics alone.

Doom has two other interesting passives. The Ring Imperial is a heavy passive attack that is automatically inflicted on all opponents at the beginning of each round. It puts Cower on each opponent, and inflicts damage on them at the end of the round. The Impending Doom passive is a “countdown” towards giving him the ability to fire the Doom Cannon, an extraordinarily powerful area attack.

His offensive abilities are quite varied and initially confusing. Every attack inflicts at least one debuff, and some gain stamina or health for Doom and the agent.

  • Technological Superiority: Two tech attacks here. Arc Lightning is a go-to attack; it strikes a single opponent with electrical energy, and Impairs and Weakens him. The second, Trifurcator, drains its target of health (typically about a third of the target’s HP) and gives both Doom and the agent a Stamina boost. It’s a Stealthy attack, limiting opponents’ ability to counter. To keep Doom from laying waste to the opposition with Trifurcator, it has a two-round cooldown once used.
  • Dark Arts: Doom is also a master of magic. His two magical attacks are Magic Bolt and Steal Essence. Magic Bolt, an Ethereal strike, slams the target with damage and any of half a dozen nasty debuffs. Steal Essence drains the target of health and gives Doom and the agent a health boost. It also has a two-round cooldown.
  • Summon Servo-Guard: These three are Doom’s low-level area attacks, and unlike the single attacks, they are a bit underpowered, though the buffs they give Doom are useful. All “summon” Servo Guards to attack the opposition. The first attack, Summon Servo Minion, inflicts the opponents with damage and the Staggered debuff, and gives Doom Focused. Summon Servo Basher damages and Stuns the opposition, and gives Doom Enraged. The last, Summon Servo Driller, inflicts damage and Pummeled, and gives Doom Close Quarters Combat.
  • Doom Cannon: This is an area attack that takes Doom several rounds to engage (the time shortens if Doom uses his Tech attacks). Because it has a five-round cooldown, it is unlikely he will get to use it more than once, if indeed he gets to it at all. It is Catastrophic, is guaranteed to crit, and inflicts tons of damage on the hapless opposition. This usually ends the battle by obliterating the entire opposition in one shot.

Doom’s defensive capabilities are nothing special, and like all Tacticians, he is vulnerable to Infiltrator attacks.

PVP: For a time, Doom was a staple on many PVP teams. However, it didn’t take long for opponents to learn how vulnerable he is, and most teams have methods to either avoid or remove the array of debuffs he inflicts on them. Moreover, a team with Doom lacks the third member and all the benefits he or she provides. And because PVP battles tend to only last three or four rounds at most, Doom usually never gets to unleash the Doom Cannon. While some players still rely on him, most have moved on by now.

Alternate Uniforms: There are no alternate uniforms for Doom, and it is highly doubtful he will ever get one.

Strategy Suggestions

Doom’s capabilities are varied and complex. There is no one strategy to use in every battle. You definitely want to get him to the point where he can unleash the Doom Cannon, so when in doubt, use his Arc Lightning and Trifurcator whenever possible to reduce the number of rounds it takes for him to get it prepped and ready. The only reason to use the area attacks with the Servo Minions is to try to Stun the opposition, and to give Doom the Enraged and Close Quarters Combat buffs. Otherwise, have fun trying different attacks with him. You might consider using your agent as a “tank” to absorb some of the damage that the other team will try to inflict on Doom.
