One-sentence summary of hero.

Ms. Marvel
Advantages
High damage dealer.
“Kree” speed gives three attacks per two rounds if activated.
Energy attacks give her additional stamina, and she can “absorb” energy attacks for added health.
Disadvantages
No area attack.
Weak defensively.
Poor choice for PVP except at very low levels.

I always have a fondness for ladies that kick massive rump, and Ms. Marvel fits that description perfectly. She is often the first hero recruited by a player who really dishes out the damage to the opposition. Unfortunately, she is the very definition of a “glass cannon,” a hero that is pretty easy for the opposition to knock out of the battle, especially an opponent who does not rely on energy attacks. (Energy attacks enhance her game significantly, not just because of her Absorb Energy capability, as noted below, but because they give her more stamina, something she desperately needs to keep attacking without recharging during the fight.)

Her first attack, Photon Blast, is very strong, and gives a debuff that allows future ranged attacks (long distance – think Hawkeye’s arrows). But it misses a lot in comparison to her other attacks. Her second attack, Kree Strike, is her weakest, but should always be used first, because it gives her a second attack the next time around. Her third attack, Brawl, does almost as much damage as her first, and hits with more accuracy.

Her fourth ability gives her a new dimension. Absorb Energy does just that – she “absorbs” energy attacks such as fire and radiation, giving her more (not less) health. It also buffs up her Photon Blast and even protects her teammates from energy attacks.

She has no area attack whatsoever, so she is limited entirely to battling with single opponents.

As noted, no matter how hard you try to improve her stats with ISO chips, she is still prone to taking heavy damage in combat, so don’t expect her to be around a great deal of time. This is her biggest disadvantage in PVP, where she is often played by the very low-level player, but is quickly replaced because she is so vulnerable.

PVP: Lower-level players may find her useful in PVP for a while, until they get tired of her lack of defensive abilities (i.e. watching her getting creamed all the time). Once you start getting other blasters like Dr. Strange and the Torch, you’ll likely find yourself benching her.

Alternate Uniforms: Her new Captain Marvel alt (tactician or scrapper) significantly enhances all of her abilities, and adds a protective factor to herself and her allies. You will have to complete all the tasks in Chapter 2 Season 4 to win her, but she is definitely worth the trouble. Her Original alt (blaster or bruiser) is much less interesting, though it gives her some extra capabilities.

Strategy Suggestions

Her attack strategy is straightforward. If she is facing a blaster or other opponent who deals in energy attacks, her first move should always be to Absorb Energy. Her second should be her Kree Strike. This means she won’t be dealing a lot of damage until the third round, but when she finally lets loose with her Photon Blast and/or Brawl (with her two attacks!), she will do a ton of damage to help make up for her slow entry into the fight. Basically, you just keep repeating this pattern until you’ve won the fight or she’s been knocked out.

Naturally, if she is facing enemies with guns, swords, or magic attacks, don’t bother with her Absorb Energy – and prepare to see her hit for serious damage. In fact, her game is so dependent on fighting enemies with energy attacks that if you’re fighting PVE enemies like the Maggia, the Hand, or other non-energy dealers, leave her at home and bring someone else. The same thing applies to PVP; since you don’t know who you will fight from one battle to the next, she can find herself being chewed to pieces by even modestly powerful tacticians like Hawkeye, much less opponents like Wolverine, Elektra and Rogue who don’t rely on energy attacks. If you’re a low-level player who uses her in PVP, keep on the lookout for her eventual replacement (at those levels, usually the Human Torch or Dr. Strange will be the next ones stepping up).

Set a goal of getting the Captain Marvel alt. If you do, throw most of the above information about her limitations out the window and have fun romping and stomping.
