There is no more iconic hero for Marvel than Spidey. He’s got fifty years of comics behind him. He’s got movies. He’s on lunchboxes and T-shirts. He’s on Broadway, for chrissake. So why isn’t he one of the best heroes in MAA? If there is a good answer, it probably has to do with the fact that Spidey’s movies are not made and distributed by Marvel/Disney, but by someone else. Remember, MAA is a promotional and marketing tool for the Marvel/Disney superhero movies. So we get awesome Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy heroes, but heroes that show up in other companies’ films might not get such good treatment from the game.
Spidey is a middling Infiltrator with some interesting moves. He has one passive that alternates between two states: Great Responsibility, where he protects the team from attacks (sometimes when you wish he wouldn’t), and Great Power, when his attack stats are significantly increased. His Spidey Sense is one of his four moves, and should be activated as his first action. This increases his Accuracy and Evasion.
His first attack is the classic web shot, which inflicts moderate damage and the Webbed debuff, which reduces the target’s Attack and Defense stats. It is also by far his most accurate attack. His second attack is probably his most powerful: the Web Slingshot costs a ton of Stamina, but inflicts equally heavy damage, and if the target is already Webbed, always hits and crits. His third and last attack, Web Swing, has the niftiest graphics, but isn’t his strongest. It is not particularly accurate, but if it hits, it has a chance to Stun the target. He has no area attacks, so he will always go after a single foe.
Defensively his advantages are in dodging enemy attacks. Otherwise he has no special capabilities.
PVP: Even in his alt uniforms, Spidey isn’t a good choice for PVP. He is just too offensively weak, and his Great Responsibility passive can trigger at inopportune times. He’s best used in PVE and other such battles.
Alternate Uniforms: Both of Spidey’s older alts are only minor improvements over his standard uniform. The Black Suit alt (in Bruiser and Infiltrator varieties) only adds one property, Exploits Webbed, which exacts extra damage from attacks against Webbed opponents. The Future Foundation alt (in Scrapper and Infiltrator varieties) adds the Foundation passives as well as Tingling Sensation, which increases the entire team’s Evasion.
Strategy Suggestions
When using Spidey in battle, he should always first trigger his Spidey Sense (why this isn’t a passive I don’t know), and then use his Web Shot on a selected target. He should follow that with a Web Slingshot. As long as the Webbed debuff holds, and he has the Stamina, he should continue with the Slingshot until the Webbed debuff expires, at which time he should repeat the process. He should always keep his Spidey Sense active, even if it means sacrificing an attack and Recharging.
E-ISO and A-ISO Options
Spidey has some good Empowered and Augmented ISO chips. The Inventive E-ISO chip gives him the Smartest Man in the Room passive, which increases his attack capabilities, and pairs well with others who have the same ability, such as Hank Pym and Mr. Fantastic. The Tangled E-ISO gives his Webbed debuff the chance to add another crippling debuff such as Staggered or Distraction, and gives his Web Slingshot the Opportunist debuff, which has a similar effect.
The Arachnid A-ISO gives the Web Slingshot the ability to inflict Deadly Crits, which increases the damage inflicted by critical hits.
According to veteran players, the combination of the three chips transforms Spidey into a truly formidable offensive force.
