Thing
A mediocre bruiser that deserves better from the game.

- Advantages
- Good as a “tank.”
- Immune to Bleeding, Burning and Chilled debuffs.
- Disadvantages
- Relatively low damage for a bruiser, even when enraged.
- Virtually useless in PVP.
Like his Fantastic Four colleagues Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, the Thing deserves far better than he has been given by the game. His attacks lack any synergy (in other words, they don’t stack well with one another), he doesn’t inflict huge damage, and his accuracy, even after being ISO chipped, isn’t that good. However, like Reed and the others, you need Ben Grimm to unlock Season 1 content.
His first attack, Clobberin’ Time, is a single punch. It exploits Combo Setups, but since Ben doesn’t have any attacks that inflict Combo Setup, he has to hope that one of his teammates will do him the favor of hanging it on someone. His area attack, Fault Line, doesn’t inflict a ton of damage nor does it give any serious debuffs; worse, it has no effect on Flying opponents. His last single-target attack, Gizmo Sandwich, is extraordinarily inaccurate, and has a relatively low chance of Stunning its target.
What makes the Thing useful is his second ability, Stonewall. By using this, he essentially interposes himself between his teammates and the bad guys, taking all of the hits. He gains a good bit of health that is used just for Stonewall, and thusly can take some damage without losing any of his “real” health. Better yet, he gets a free attack after being hit during Stonewall, which can be used against anyone, not just the guy who popped him. Since he is immune to Burning, Bleeding and Chilled, he is a very good choice to use to keep your other two guys from getting sliced, frozen or scorched.
PVP: Because of his limitations, he is not a good choice for PVP.
Alternate Uniform(s): He has one alternate uniform, the Future Foundation alt. Its best advantage is letting him wear a real uniform instead of just swimming trunks. The Future Foundation capabilities, which come into play when paired with another hero who also has the Future Foundation alt, isn’t worth the CP expenditure. The only real advantage to this alt is the Tough Guy buff, which gives Ben and his teammates increased defense. Unless you have a ton of command points and a lust to own all of the heroes and their alts, I wouldn’t recommend buying this one.
Strategy Suggestions
Only use him in battles where his Stonewall capability and his various immunities will be useful.
